If you or a family member has been arrested for any kind of criminal offense call Callaghan & Callaghan. We have the experience and expertise to ensure that your rights are protected throughout each step of the criminal justice system. Without an experienced criminal defense attorney at your side, you could end up with a conviction that affects you, your family, your employment, and your future.
The Constitution provides that every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. But even with that Constitutional protection, any contact with law enforcement can be a stressful experience – from a traffic stop – to an arrest – to arraignment and beyond.
At Callaghan & Callaghan each case receives detailed attention. We explore every avenue of defense. We examine and analyze each police report, witness statement, and exhibit. We also conduct our own investigations to provide the highest quality defense.
Callaghan & Callaghan has a deep understanding of the criminal justice system because both of our attorneys are former prosecutors. Matthew F. Callaghan, Jr. served as Town Solicitor for the Town of Narragansett, and, James M. Callaghan, is a former Special Assistant Attorney General. Matt and James have tried cases successfully in Providence County Kent County, Newport County, and in Washington County.
In his time as a Special Assistant Attorney General, James handled hundreds of DUI and Breathalyzer Refusal cases as well as all misdemeanor and felony matters. He has years of experience in both District Court and Superior Court. Additionally, he has had victories in trials before both judges and juries. When he left the Attorney General for private practice, he was the Chief of the Newport County Office.
